Events

Golf's big events, explained.

The majors, the team cups, the tour seasons and the rankings that tie them together. Every result on these pages carries its year, and the 2026 season is described as it stood on 20 October 2026.

Professional golf runs on a long calendar. It includes four men's majors and five women's majors; the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup and the Presidents Cup were all played in September in their most recent editions, and several tours run season-long points races that, in 2026, finish in November. This section explains how each event works, who won it from 2023 to 2026, and where each 2026 race stood on 20 October 2026.

How we report results

Every result is given with its year. A season that was still running on 20 October 2026 is described as in progress, with no champion named. Where sources disagree we say so and give each version, and results that rest only on search summaries rather than a page we could read are labelled.

The majors

The men's majors are the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open and The Open. The majors overview puts their winners side by side. The LPGA recognises five women's majors, from the Chevron Championship in April to the AIG Women's Open in July or August.

Team matches

The Ryder Cup sets Europe against the United States; Europe won in 2023 and 2025, and the next match is at Adare Manor in Ireland in September 2027. The other team cups page covers the Solheim Cup in the women's game, the Presidents Cup, and the amateur Walker Cup and Curtis Cup.

Tours and season races

Each tour runs a season-long race. The PGA Tour uses the FedEx Cup, the DP World Tour the Race to Dubai, and LIV Golf runs individual and team standings. The LPGA and Ladies European Tour page covers the Race to the CME Globe and the LET Order of Merit.

Beyond the tours

Olympic golf returned in 2016 and adds a mixed team event at Los Angeles in 2028. Amateur golf has its own championships, including the U.S. Amateur and The Amateur Championship. The world rankings page explains how the men's ranking is calculated and who was number one on the latest dated source, and watching golf lists the 2026 broadcasters the sources name.
